This is the good stuff, folks. The subtly experimental, the catchy, the anthemic, the well-played and produced. This is the kind of music I REALLY like – the transportive stuff that seeks our future, but never condones or dismisses our humanity. The stuff that reminds us why said humanity is so darn important, so necessary amidst even the most clever technological strides. If you’re looking for your new favorite, adventurous, Bowie-leaning, glam-rock-hugging band, Nude Canoe is the new musical brew for you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.”

NUDE CANOE

A Biography

Nude Canoe is a 5-piece classic rock-inspired, indie alternative band from Dayton, OH, United States. The group formed in 1989 from a collection of unrepentant creatives; brothers-in-arms who met at a young age as classmates in Springboro, OH, sharing a love of established artists ranging from radio staples such as U2, Prince, and Pink Floyd to alternative groundbreakers like REM, XTC, and Love and Rockets. The band’s unique sound is an amalgamation of melodic hooks, psychedelic guitar overtones, organic grooves, and cosmic synth ambience. This, bolstered by imaginative but emotionally grounded lyrics, creates an immersive, highly replayable listening experience.

Cutting their teeth as regional performers in the late 80s and early 90s, Nude Canoe released two full-length albums on cassette, both recorded at Dayton’s venerated Cro-Magnon Studios, 1989’s Triptoeing Thru the Turnips and their seminal early work, 1990s Mohair Jacket Safari (remixed and rereleased independently in 2016) as well as the 1990 single, Love Is Around/Bavarian Sunlight.  The band was a showcased artist three times in the early 90s by legendary alternative radio station 97X based in Oxford, OH, as part of their 97eXposure campaign.  Members continued to record in various lineup configurations into the early-mid 1990s before moving on to other projects and locales, leaving Nude Canoe on hiatus until reuniting in 2018 to begin work on their 2020 15-song opus, Dark Optimism.

In late 2022, the band began compiling demos with recording beginning in earnest spring of 2023 for their first LP release, the 10-song epic Cycles, released Oct 4th, 2024 to streaming services and followed 2 weeks later on 12" custom vinyl.

‘Cycles’, is a sonic surprise, filled with poignant melodies, catchy hooks, and thoughtful songs. Overall, this album is a very satisfying set of tunes we will enjoy for some time.”
